• Hotel → Poncebos (30 min, AS-114 & CO-3). Warm-up along the emerald Río Sella, then the famous narrow gorge climb to Poncebos. Hairpins, rock walls, zero traffic in November.
• Ruta del Cares viewpoint (5 min stop). Park at the top of Poncebos for the classic photo: bike + the 200m-deep canyon of the Cares carved into the limestone.
• Lagos de Covadonga (35 min, CO-4 → AS-262). The legendary climb: 12km of perfect 2nd/3rd-gear hairpins, freshly paved 2024. Morning mist in the valleys, cows on the road, pure Picos magic.
• Lakes Ercina & Enol. Park right at Lago Ercina (free outside July–August). 2-minute walk to the water’s edge – turquoise lakes, grazing horses, 360° limestone peaks. One of the most spectacular bike backdrops in Europe. Coffee stop: Bufé de los Lagos – café con leche + slice of cabrales cheesecake while the mountains reflect in the water.
• Mirador de la Reina (5 min ride). Even higher viewpoint. Bike + the entire Covadonga range behind you = Instagram gold.
• Descent to Cangas via the epic AS-114 (30 min).Drop 900m in 15km of non-stop hairpins – the descent is even better than the climb.
• Lunch in Cangas. El Abuelo (50m from the hotel) – park the bike right outside. Order fabada asturiana and cachopo while the Sella river rushes past the terrace.
• Afternoon bonus blast – Río Güeña gorge (45 min out-and-back, 40km total). If you still have energy: take the AS-342 south to the narrow, twisty gorge along the Río Güeña – another 20km of 2nd-gear heaven with tunnels, waterfalls and almost no cars.
• Back at Hotel Ciudad de Cangas. Ride straight into the underground garage, leave the bike dusty, walk upstairs for a shower and then hit the hotel bar for a well earned cold Mahou overlooking the Roman bridge at golden hour.

This is the definitive Picos de Europa day-loop: Roman bridge sunrise → canyon carving → the most famous mountain climb in Spain → turquoise lakes at 1,100m → epic descent → fabada 50m from your bed. All killer, no filler – and still short enough to ride it twice if the weather is perfect.
