Description

Finca SOTOMAR-casa rural Simancas

Just 4km from historic Simancas (with its imposing castle on the Pisuerga river and the famous General Archive of Spain) and only 15 minutes from Valladolid city, Finca SOTOMAR is a lovingly restored 18th-century Castilian farmhouse set on its own peaceful estate of vineyards, olive groves and manicured gardens. Rent either of the 3-bedroom houses (up to 15 people) and it instantly feels like your own private country mansion – exactly the kind of relaxed, independent base motorcyclists dream of finding in the middle of Spain’s endless plains.

⦿Inside & out.
Six atmospheric en-suite bedrooms keep the original stone walls and wooden beams but add modern bathrooms, comfortable beds and plenty of character. There’s a huge open-plan living-dining room with fireplace, a fully equipped kitchen for cooking up rib-eye steaks after a long day, a heated indoor saltwater pool and jacuzzi for winter recovery, and a massive covered terrace with barbecue and outdoor kitchen for summer nights under the stars. A games room, sun terrace, picnic area and even indoor/outdoor play zones keep everyone happy.

⦿Why riders love it.

  • Gated grounds with unlimited free private parking – bring the whole group, trailers, whatever.
  • Electric vehicle charging and secure bicycle storage (handy if you mix bikes and pedal).
  • Direct roll-out onto silent backroads: Tierra de Campos plains, Toro wine region or the surprisingly twisty Montes Torozos all within 10–40 minutes.
  • Total peace at night – no hotel corridors, just crickets and owls.
  • Private check-in/out, tour desk and hiking/cycling routes from the door.

Only 13km from Valladolid’s Plaza Mayor, 14km from the Casa-Museo de Zorrilla and 22km from the airport, yet properly rural and gloriously quiet. Finca SOTOMAR gives you complete freedom, acres of space to spread out wet gear or plan the next day’s route on the terrace with a bottle of local Toro red, and that rare “we’ve got the whole place to ourselves” vibe – making it the perfect self-catering headquarters for small groups or families touring Castilla y León by motorcycle.

Finca SOTOMAR Living Room

Finca SOTOMAR, Simancas.
Recommended Ride: The “Castilla Seca Secret Loop” – 195km | 4.5–5.5hours | Mudéjar castles, pine mountains & endless empty roads | Lunch in Tordesillas | Back before the poolside fire warms up.
Route (clockwise – the sweetest flow):

  • Finca SOTOMAR → Wamba → Peñaflor de Hornija (35km). Leave the estate south on the VP-6602 – arrow-straight at first through pine woods and wheat fields, then the road starts to roll and wiggle. Quick photo stop in Wamba (one of Spain’s best-preserved Mozarabic churches, 10th century) and again in Peñaflor to admire the ridiculously picturesque castle ruins on the hill.
  • Peñaflor → Toro wine country → Villardefrades (40km). Head west on the quiet CL-602 and VP-5603 through classic Tierra de Campos – huge horizons, red-tiled villages and zero traffic. Detour 5km into Toro itself if you fancy a quick coffee in the stunning Colegiata plaza and a peek at the famous wine region that gives Ribera del Duero a run for its money.
  • Villardefrades → Urueña → San Cebrián de Mazote (30km). Turn north onto the VP-5606 – the landscape starts to rise gently. Stop in Urueña (Spain’s official “Village of Books” – walled, medieval and perched on a hill). Then a flowing 15 km blast to San Cebrián de Mazote to see the 10th-century Mozarabic jewel of San Cebrián church – one of the finest in Europe.
  • San Cebrián → Montes Torozos climb → La Santa Espina (35km). Now the fun really starts: take the VP-5604 and VP-5605 west into the surprisingly mountainous Montes Torozos. 25km of perfect hairpins, switchbacks and ridge running through pine forests up to 900m. Stop at the Cistercian monastery of La Santa Espina for the panoramic views – on a clear day you can see half of Castilla.
  • La Santa Espina → Tordesillas (lunch) – 25km. Screaming descent on buttery tarmac (VP-5605 → N-122) straight into historic Tordesillas on the Duero river – where the treaty that divided the New World between Spain and Portugal was signed. Park under the magnificent Plaza Mayor and eat: Mesón San Antón or Casa de la Torre for cochinillo or cordero asado, or just a quick bocadillo and beer watching the river.
  • Tordesillas → Simancas → Finca SOTOMAR (30km). Easy, pretty run along the Duero valley (N-122 → VA-610) with the river on your right. Detour 2km into Simancas to ride across the medieval bridge and under the castle walls if you feel like it, then 4km of country lanes straight back to the Finca gates.

Roll in, park next to the olive trees, boots off, and unwind by the pool or fire up the living room fireplace with a bottle of Toro you picked up on the way. 195km of pure, undiscovered Castilla magic with the whole house waiting for you and your group. Do this ride once and you’ll understand why the Valladolid backroads are one of Spain’s best-kept motorcycling secrets.

The finca is amazing. They are two super-equipped houses, a huge plot with a manicured lawn, a pool, hammocks… Everything is very well maintained and clean. Nuria, the host, made sure everything was ready for our arrival so we would feel at home. She gave us tons of recommendations on what to do in Simancas and Valladolid and was available for anything we needed. We had an amazing weekend. Thank you very much, Nuria!

Awesome place to visit. We had an amazing stay at this house with a group of 15 people. Everyone in our group really enjoyed it! The conditions of the house were great, everything was clean and well maintained. The pool was a highlight, perfect for relaxing and spending time together. The garden was also very nice and spacious, giving us plenty of room to play football and hang out. What really made the experience even better was the host, very warm, friendly, and welcoming, which made us feel right at home. We would definitely recommend this place.
