Description

Hotel Don Felipe

Hotel Don Felipe is a charming, modern boutique hotel nestled in the heart of Segovia's UNESCO-listed historic old town, just 200 metres from the iconic Roman Aqueduct and a short stroll to the majestic Alcázar castle (220 metres), the towering cathedral, and the lively Plaza Mayor (400 metres).

This central gem offers beautiful city views from many rooms, a furnished sun terrace for relaxing with a drink, and a welcoming bar/coffee shop – the perfect spot to unwind after wandering the golden sandstone streets on foot or tackling the Sierra de Guadarrama's alpine passes on two wheels.

The bright, air-conditioned rooms feature wooden floors, flat-screen TV, minibar, safe, and private bathrooms with bath or shower, hairdryer and free toiletries, all kept spotlessly clean. Riders especially appreciate the paid private underground parking (€17 per day, with secure, gated access ideal for motorbikes – reserve ahead as spaces are limited in this pedestrian-friendly zone), allowing you to safeguard the bike amid narrow medieval streets and go full tourist without hassle.

A hearty buffet breakfast is available daily, while the hotel's central location puts countless restaurants and cafés right on your doorstep. With 24-hour reception, a helpful tour desk offering information on Segovia's main sights, and easy access from Madrid (35 minutes by high-speed train or about 90 minutes' drive from Barajas Airport), Hotel Don Felipe is the practical, highly rated Segovia base for motorcyclists wanting prime location, comfort and fairy-tale views – park once and let the walking (and epic day rides) begin.

Hotel Don Felipe.
Recommended Ride: “Aqueduct to Pedraza, Sepúlveda & Hoces del Duratón – The Full Medieval & Canyon Experience”.
(≈ 155km loop | 5–5.5hrs riding | Roman aqueduct → golden Castilian plains → two of Spain’s prettiest walled villages → 40km of non-stop canyon hairpins).

  • 00km – Start: Hotel Don Felipe. Roll out at sunrise, 2-minute ride to the Roman Aqueduct base (Calle Daoiz → Avenida Fernández Ladreda). Park directly underneath the 2,000-year-old arches for the money-shot – no cars allowed here before 09:00.
  • 00–15km – Segovia to Turégano (N-110 east). Fast, flowing dual-carriageway warm-up past the Alcázar fairy-tale silhouette on your left.
  • 15–42km – Turégano to Pedraza (CL-603 → SG-241). Turn right at Turégano onto the SG-241 – suddenly you’re on perfect 3rd-gear sweepers through wheat fields with the Sierra de Guadarrama rising ahead.
  • Pedraza (42km) – one of the most perfectly preserved medieval walled towns in Spain. Enter through the only gate (Puerta de la Villa), park inside the tiny Plaza Mayor. Photo with the castle on the hill behind.
  • 42–48km – Pedraza to Sepúlveda (SG-232 “the Canyon Road”). Leave Pedraza north on the SG-232 – the road immediately drops into the Hoces del Duratón Natural Park.
  • Next 25km = pure motorcycling nirvana: 2nd/3rd-gear hairpins carved into 300m limestone cliffs, Turquoise Duratón river flashing below, Griffon vultures riding thermals at eye level
Zero traffic, glass-smooth asphalt resurfaced 2024.
  • 68km – Sepúlveda. Park at the viewpoint above the village (Mirador de la Virgen de la Peña) for the classic shot of red-roofed houses perched on the gorge edge.
  • Café stop (68km). Bar La Toba (Sepúlveda old town) – terrace coffee + homemade pastas de Sepúlveda (almond pastries) with canyon views.
  • 68–95km – Sepúlveda to Coca via Riaza & Ayllón (SG-232 → N-110 → SG-911). Continue the canyon run to the end, then open sweepers through pine forests. Optional quick detour at Ayllón (red medieval village, 5km off-route) or stay on the faster N-110.
  • 95–125km – Coca Castle & golden plains (N-110 west). Coca (one of the finest Mudéjar brick castles in Spain – park right at the moat). Then 40km of dead-straight, empty Castilian roads through endless wheat fields at golden hour.
  • 125–155km – Final blast back to Segovia (N-110 → CL-601). Fast sweepers with the Sierra silhouetted to the south. Sunset finish option – 5 km detour to Mirador de la Fuenfría (just off the CL-601) for the last light exploding over the aqueduct 20km away.
  • Finish: Hotel Don Felipe – straight into the underground garage (€17/day well spent for this location). Walk 200m to Calle Infanta Isabel for roast cochinillo and a cold Mahou under the aqueduct lights.
  • This is the definitive Segovia day-ride: Roman masterpiece → two fairy-tale walled villages → one of the most spectacular canyon roads in inland Spain → golden plains at sunset. Pure Castilian magic on two wheels.

Hotel very well located for visiting the old town. A large terrace on two levels allows to have a very nice view of the castle. Parking very accessible for a motorcycle.
